Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) accused conservative media personality Clay Travis of jury tampering as former President Trump heads to trial this week in New York regarding an alleged hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
“If you’re a Trump supporter in New York City who is a part of the jury pool, do everything you can to get seated on the jury and then refuse to convict as a matter of principle, dooming the case via hung jury,” Travis wrote Monday on social platform X. “It’s the most patriotic thing you could possibly do.”
Travis is a commentator and writer for sports media website OutKick and appears frequently on Fox News and elsewhere across conservative media.
Swalwell, a Democrat and frequent Trump critic, made a post of his own on the platform with a screenshot of Travis’s statement, commenting, “Jury tampering. That’s what they do. *It’s a felony.”
The former president faces 34 counts of falsifying business records over allegations he criminally concealed a hush money payment made days to Daniels before the 2016 presidential election.
Jury selection in the trial began Monday.
