Meghan McCain promotes July 17 as #GBMday to raise awareness of father’s cancer

Meghan McCain, co-host of “The View,” tweeted Wednesday about Glioblastoma (GBM) Awareness Day.

Her father, former Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), died of the brain cancer last year.

{mosads}”Today is the first time July 17th is being declared GBM Awareness Day. It will be this day from today on forward,” she wrote. “We commit to fighting the evil cancer Glioblastoma and finding a cure for those who have been taken from us too soon.”

McCain also discussed the disease on “The View,” and her mother Cindy McCain appeared in the audience.

The co-host called GBM “a really horrific cancer that we are obviously all committed to fighting.”

In June, the Senate agreed to a bipartisan resolution to designate July 17 Glioblastoma Awareness Day. The resolution was introduced by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), known for his close friendship with John McCain, and had three Democratic and two Republican co-sponsors.

Graham also tweeted about GBM on Wednesday, writing, “Tragically, glioblastoma has taken the lives of too many across the country, including those of our close former colleagues Sen. John McCain and Sen. Ted Kennedy.”
