‘CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell’ to debut with Jeff Bezos, Caroline Kennedy interview

“CBS Evening News” with new anchor Norah O’Donnell will debut July 15 with a joint interview of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and former U.S. Ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy, the network announced Monday.

The Bezos-Kennedy interview will focus on the future of space exploration as part of CBS News’s coverage of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission to the moon.
O’Donnell’s debut comes two months after she was named the new anchor, replacing Jeff Glor after ratings for the third-place program, behind ABC and NBC, did not improve.

{mosads}“There is a real hunger for an independent source of news, and that starts with Norah O’Donnell. She has traveled the world reporting the most important stories of our time and has covered the White House, the Pentagon and Capitol Hill,” said CBS News president and senior executive producer Susan Zirinsky in a statement Monday. “Norah is the right person at the right time.”

O’Donnell, 45, will also serve as managing editor of the newscast. Additionally, the former NBC News White House correspondent and MSNBC host will be lead anchor for political coverage of the 2020 elections.

“CBS Evening News” will be broadcast from CBS News headquarters in New York before moving to Washington, D.C., in the fall.
