Scarborough: ‘What a joke’ for Pompeo to say Fox’s Wallace asks ridiculous questions
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough ripped Mike Pompeo on Monday, saying the secretary of State “made a fool of himself” by saying that “Fox News Sunday” anchor Chris Wallace had asked a “ridiculous question.”
Pompeo made the remark after Wallace asked him whether accepting opposition research from a foreign government was right or wrong. The question referenced President Trump’s remarks last week saying he would look at information offered by a foreign government on a rival candidate.
{mosads}”Chris, you know you asked me not to call any of your questions today ‘ridiculous,’ you came really close right there,” Pompeo told Wallace.
“Who is Mike Pompeo to say that Chris Wallace asks a ridiculous question when he’s just stating the truth?” Scarborough said Monday on “Morning Joe.”
“What a joke,” Scarborough said. “And what a disgrace for Mike Pompeo to be given all the opportunities he’s been given in life, to get the degrees, to be able to go to the best schools in the world and to use that ability, to use his talents, to use his background to make a fool of himself and lie for the president of the United States and excuse the president of the United States saying that, yes, there’s nothing wrong with accepting information from foreign hostile powers. That’s what the secretary just said.”
Citing unnamed sources, Scarborough contended that Pompeo hopes to be president himself some day after Trump leaves office.
He said Pompeo had “a combination of arrogance and ambition that would have him setting his sights on something far higher than the Senate seat from Kansas. He thinks he could be president of the United States, and who could blame him looking at who he works for and how who he works for operates.”
“I know Donald Trump, Donald Trump was a friend of mine, and Mike Pompeo, you’re no Donald Trump. Seriously, if you think you can do what Donald Trump can do, that’s a joke,” Scarborough added.
Pompeo and Wallace have had tense exchanges in the recent past, including on May 5, when Pompeo accused the more than 50-year news veteran of being “fixated on Mueller” during a “Fox News Sunday” interview that focused on findings in special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on Russian election interference.
