Neo-Nazi website ordered to pay $4.1 million to Muslim comic in libel case

A neo-Nazi website was reportedly ordered to pay $4.1 million in damages to a Muslim comic it falsely accused of terrorism.

Dean Obeidallah, a writer accused of terrorist attacks by the alt-right The Daily Stormer after publishing a story critical of President Trump, said in a CNN op-ed a federal judge in Ohio ruled in his favor Wednesday.

Obeidallah sued Andrew Anglin, founder of the Daily Stormer, for libel after the website made unfound claims that the writer was an ISIS terrorist responsible for the May 2017 terrorist attack at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England.

In his CNN op-ed Obeidallah said he’s not sure how much of the money will be collected, noting Anglin is reportedly no longer living in the U.S.

Whatever he does make, he said he plans to donate to organizations fighting bigotry of all kinds.

“But this lawsuit was never about money. It was about sending a message to these vile white supremacists and their ilk that they will not silence me or members of the other groups they despise, be they blacks, Jews, LGBT people, immigrants, etc.,” Obediallah said in CNN. “We will neither cower in fear nor stop calling out their hate. And more than that, we will take them to court and we will win”

The Daily Beast reports Anglin is facing another lawsuit from a Jewish woman who received death threats after Anglin attacked her on his website.
