John Oliver torches Meghan McCain over Seth Meyers dust-up

John Oliver labeled conservative commentator Meghan McCain the “most embarrassing child of a prominent political figure” as part of a joke during his show Sunday.

The host of HBO’s “Last Week Tonight” took a dig at McCain in an unrelated joke, referring to her appearance earlier this month on Seth Meyers’s late-night show.

During the opening portion of his show Sunday night, Oliver highlighted the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest and poked fun at the Icelandic group “Hatari.” Oliver pointed out that one of the band’s members, clad in a BDSM-themed costume, is the son of Iceland’s ambassador to the United Kingdom.

{mosads}“You may be thinking that’s the most embarrassing child of a prominent political figure you’ve ever seen, but let me remind you of the continued existence of Meghan McCain!” Oliver said.

He continued on to mock McCain’s husband, Ben Domenech, publisher of conservative site The Federalist.

“Oh no! Oh no! I bet her husband is going to get so mad at me now!” Oliver joked. “What on earth is he going to tweet and then delete? I can’t wait to find out!”

Oliver was referring to Domenech’s fervent defense of McCain after she clashed with “Late Night” host Meyers when he asked her about controversial comments she made about Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.)

Domenech, in a since-deleted, profanity-filled tweetstorm, went off on Meyers, calling him an “awful person” and “monumental asshole.”

Oliver was apparently unfazed by Domenech’s attack on Meyers, going after the high-profile couple in a joke to open his show, delighting his in-studio audience.

Neither McCain nor Domenech had responded to Oliver’s joke about them as of Monday morning.
