CNN’s Bash reads Biden-Taylor Swift conspiracy theories: ‘I’m trying not to laugh’

CNN’s Dana Bash said she tried not to laugh Tuesday as she read the latest conspiracy theories surrounding singer Taylor Swift, President Biden and the NFL.

“Have you heard the latest conspiracy theory making the rounds? Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce and the NFL and the Democratic Party are in cahoots to get Joe Biden reelected, but stay with me,” Bash said on CNN’s “Inside Politics.”

“Prominent right-wing figures are speculating that her relationship with Travis Kelce is made up and that the Super Bowl will be rigged for Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs. And the endgame is Swift endorsing Biden after the big game,” Bash continued.

Conservative media has been inundated with unfounded theories that the NFL is rigging games to ensure Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and the Kansas City Chiefs make the Super Bowl, as President Biden’s campaign is reportedly seeking an endorsement from the pop star. The jump in claims connected to Swift picked up after the Chiefs clinched a Super Bowl appearance with a win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

Bash then went on to read commentary from conservative pundits about the theories.

“Here are some of the messages — I’m trying not to laugh — circulating on social media,” she said.

This included posts on X, formerly Twitter, from former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who said: “I wonder who’s going to win the Super Bowl next month.” Bash also highlighted posts from podcast host Mike Crispi and conservative media personality Benny Johnson.

“And I wonder if there’s a major presidential endorsement coming from an artificially culturally propped-up couple this fall. Just some wild speculation over here, let’s see how it ages over the next 8 months,” Ramaswamy wrote on X.

The New York Times reported earlier this week that Biden’s campaign is said to be interested in a “dream” endorsement from Swift, who conservative pundits claim wants to help Democrats win the election. The “Karma” singer has dipped her toes in politics before, endorsing Biden in 2020 and urging her fans to register to vote in recent elections.

It’s not clear whether she will get involved in the 2024 election, as she continues on her international tour.

“God forbid there’s an incredibly powerful woman who tends to just do things the way she wants to do them and she tends — she seems to like this football player,” Bash concluded her segment.
