Norah O’Donnell moves to CBS evening news show

Norah O’Donnell has officially been named anchor of “CBS Evening News” and will replace Jeff Glor, according to a network announcement on Monday.

{mosads}O’Donnell, who has served as co-anchor of “CBS This Morning” since 2012, will also serve as managing editor and as a contributor to “60 Minutes.”

The network also said Monday that John Dickerson will also be departing its morning show for “60 Minutes” and will also have a role in 2020 election specials.

The changes come days after a New York Post report citing unnamed sources at CBS as stating “CBS This Morning” co-anchor Gayle King urged management to oust O’Donnell from the show.

King addressed the New York Post story after the changes were made public on Monday morning.

“It’s so amazing to me, Norah, that after seven years together that now people would say that you and I have some beef,” King said. “I have no beef with you, you have no beef with me.”

“This is a business about ratings and when the ratings don’t work they make changes,” she later added, “and so they’re making changes that they hope will lead to better things.”

O’Donnell shared that she and King were best friends while complimenting her co-anchor.
“You made me better in everything I have done,” O’Donnell said to King.

“CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell” is set to launch this summer. The newscast will be broadcast out of New York before relocating to Washington in the fall.

“I think about the legacy, I think about the history of CBS News and that it’s incredibly humbling to accept this position,” said O’Donnell.

“I was looking through some things that Walter Cronkite said, and he said ‘I can’t imagine a person becoming a success in life without giving everything they’ve got.’ And so I’m gonna give this everything I’ve got,” she said.

The CBS evening newscast has been mired in third place for years behind broadcasts on rival networks ABC and NBC.
