Civil rights attorney confronts Candace Owens on Fox News

A civil rights attorney appearing as a guest on Fox News’s “The Ingraham Angle” opposite conservative commentator Candace Owens called her out Wednesday evening, accusing Owens of getting her “15 minutes of fame” during a contentious congressional hearing on white nationalism.

Civil Rights attorney Leo Terrell took shots at Owens on Laura Ingraham’s show, saying she was attempting to put herself “in the same category of Donald Trump, talking about the false narrative” for saying the term nationalism has been tainted by the Democrats.

{mosads}“Candace Owens is getting 15 minutes of fame, and just give me 30 seconds to prove my point,” Terrell said. “She just again assumed that all Democrats are hoping that black people fail. On her interview with C-SPAN, she said the word nationalism has been compromised or poisoned by elitists. Tell that to the people in Charlottesville.”

Owens had a lively back-and-forth with Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) on Tuesday during the House Judiciary Committee hearing, where Lieu played a clip of her from December discussing the difference between “nationalism” and “globalism” using Adolf Hitler as an example.

“If Hitler just wanted to make Germany great and have things run well — OK, fine,” Owens said at the time. “The problem is … he had dreams outside of Germany. He wanted to globalize. He wanted everybody to be German.”

The clip from the hearing became the most watched video on C-SPAN’s Twitter account with more than 4.4 million views.

“I think it’s pretty apparent that Mr. Lieu thinks that black people are stupid and will not pursue the full clip in its entirety,” Owens told the Judiciary panel.

“[Hitler] was a homicidal, psychopathic maniac that killed his own people,” she added. “A nationalist would not kill their own people.”

Owens also said Tuesday the so-called GOP southern strategy in the 1960s to appeal to white southern voters on racial issues was a myth, and that Democrats were only trying “to scare blacks, Hispanics, gays and Muslims” into supporting liberal policies.

She did not take kindly to Terrell’s categorization of her hearing appearance.

“That’s a personal attack,” she said on “The Ingraham Angle.”

Ingraham agreed that Terrell’s comments “are attacking her character.”

The conversation quickly turned to the guests speaking over each other before Owens fully responded.

“That was an ad hominem attack and it was childish and I’m not going to play these playground tactics with you,” Owens said. “I’m going to keep the focus on black America and the things actually impacting us. This is an adult conversation that needs to be had.”

Ingraham defended Owens’s appearance at the hearing and said what Lieu implied about her was “disgusting.”

“I know Candace, and what was said about her, implied by Ted Lieu, was disgusting,” Ingraham said.
