Don Lemon sees double standard in Haley’s Civil War remarks

Former CNN anchor Don Lemon called out GOP presidential hopeful Nikki Haley over her recent comments on the Civil War, making note that she mocked him earlier this year over his remarks about her age.

“Nikki Haley wants grace for using a poor choice of words when, after I misspoke in some comments involving her, she didn’t offer me that same grace, immediately and very publicly took me to task, and then fundraised off of it,” Lemon wrote Thursday on X, formerly known as Twitter. “However, I’m glad she clarified what she should have said. And, In the spirit of the season, let’s see if her actions match her corrected words moving forward.”

Haley ignited a firestorm this week with comments about the cause of the Civil War. During a campaign stop in New Hampshire, Haley failed to mention slavery in her response to a question from a voter about the cause of the conflict.

The former United Nations ambassador has since clarified her remarks, saying this week, “of course the Civil War was about slavery.”

When Haley, 51, entered the race in February, Lemon was an anchor at CNN and sparked major pushback for saying the Republican was “not in her prime,” after she suggested a competency test for politicians over 75 years old.

Haley raised funds off Lemon’s remarks, which he later apologized for, and she mocked the anchor when he was fired by CNN later that spring.
