Scarborough: Release of Mueller summary ‘best day’ of Trump presidency

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough called special counsel Robert Mueller’s conclusion that President Trump did not collude with Russia “good news” for all Americans.

Speaking Monday on “Morning Joe,” Scarborough, a frequent critic of the president, declared it the “best day” of Trump’s presidency.

“If the appointment of Robert Mueller was the worst day of his presidency, the release of Robert Mueller’s report was the best day of his presidency,” Scarborough said.

“It is good news,” he continued. “[For] Democrats, independents and Republicans alike … that the president of the United States did not conspire with Russia to influence the 2016 election.”

{mosads}Mueller’s report has not actually been released, but Attorney General William Barr on Sunday did release a summary of its findings.

Mueller submitted his confidential report to Barr on Friday, marking the conclusion of a two-year investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

In the summary, Barr said Mueller did not find evidence to conclude that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia, but did not conclude whether the president obstructed justice.

In his four-page letter, Barr noted that Mueller said: “While this report does not conclude that the president committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.”

Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, in reviewing Mueller’s report, determined there should not be an obstruction of justice charge against Trump.

The White House has declared victory following the conclusion of Mueller’s report, declaring the findings “a total and complete exoneration” for the president.

Scarborough jabbed Trump for his criticism of Mueller throughout the investigation, praising the special counsel as an “honorable man” whose findings he respects.

“Unlike Donald Trump and the right-wing hacks that were chopping Robert Mueller to pieces for two years, we know that Robert Mueller actually is an honorable man and we can put our heads on our pillows tonight and know … that the president of the United States did not collude with Vladimir Putin and Russia,” Scarborough said.
