Milo Yiannopoulos barred from entering Australia: report
Alt-right provocateur and former Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos was barred from entering Australia, The Sydney Morning Herald reported Wednesday.
The Department of Home Affairs made the decision to reject his visa application last week on character grounds.
{mosads}A letter sent earlier this month to Yiannopoulos by immigration officials previewed the decision.
The letter, shared by Sky News host Andrew Bolt, noted that Australia has the power to block someone from entering the country if there is a risk that person would “incite discord in the Australian community or in a segment of that community.”
The speaker has received backlash over a variety of comments and actions.
Yiannopoulos resigned from Breitbart in 2017 following an uproar over comments he made in which he appeared to endorse having sex with young boys.
In 2018, PayPal suspended Yiannopoulos after he sent $14.88, a number used by white supremacists because “14” represents the mantra of securing a future for white children and “88” represents “Heil Hitler,” to a Jewish journalist.
Australia has previously banned speakers, including whistleblower Chelsea Manning and Gavin McInnes, the leader of the far-right Proud Boys group, from entering the country.
