Hillary Clinton: Biden is Dems best hope in 2024
Former first lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said she believes President Biden remains the best nominee as Democrats work to retain control of the White House in 2024.
“Yes, he is,” she said Wednesday on ABC’s “The View,” when asked if Biden was the best person to take on former President Trump, the Republican front-runner by a wide margin. “He’s done a really good job as president. I like to evaluate people in public life in terms of what have they gotten done for us.”
Clinton’s comments come just days after a poll showed Biden falling behind Trump in five battleground states, creating concern among Democrats nationwide.
Democratic hopes for the coming election cycle got a shot in the arm Tuesday evening, however, when a number of progressive causes and candidates won sweeping victories in states including Ohio and Virginia, where issues such as women’s reproductive rights and the economy were top of mind for voters.
“If you go back and look at comparable points, Barack Obama was behind at this point in his reelection, my husband was behind … until the candidates are actually chosen, people are always saying maybe there’s somebody better out there … That’s natural,” Clinton, who lost to Trump in the 2016 presidential election, said. “But look at the alternative, and look at what we would face as a country.”
Clinton said the country would change dramatically “as we know it” if Trump were to be elected in 2024.
“I can’t even think that,” she said. “I hated losing, and I especially hated losing to him … I think he’d be even worse now because he was somewhat restrained in the first time by people he hired … the wreckage would be unimaginable.”
