Daily Caller reporter Benny Johnson joining Turning Point USA

Benny Johnson, a former reporter at The Daily Caller, is joining Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point USA, The Hill has confirmed.

In his new role, Johnson, whose past work has included serving as a viral politics editor at BuzzFeed and The Blaze, will serve as chief creative officer of Turning Point.

The conservative organization bills itself as “a national student movement dedicated to identifying, organizing, and empowering young people to promote the principles of free markets, and limited government” that boasts 1,400 members.{mosads}

“I’ve spent my entire career curating content for the politically nerdy kids on the internet. My goal has always to reach them and inform them about how their government functions,” Johnson said in a statement to The Hill. “I’ve been a speaker and emcee of dozens of Turning Point USA events. It’s where the energy is in the conservative movement.”

Kirk, a frequent Fox News guest and opinion contributor for The Hill, founded Turning Point in June 2012. The 25-year-old spoke at the 2016 Republican National Convention.

“We are so excited to announce that Benny will be joining the greatest team of freedom fighters at Turning Point USA,” Kirk told the Hill. “Benny is bringing his humor, wit, and creative force of nature to Turning Point USA as our new Chief Creative Officer. It’s a natural partnership and we could not be more thrilled.”

Johnson resigned from The Daily Caller on Jan. 28. The website was originally founded by Tucker Carlson, now a Fox News host, in January 2010. Johnson previously worked at BuzzFeed, where he was fired for plagiarism in 2014.
