CNN given all-clear after bomb threat evacuation

The building that houses CNN’s New York City bureau was given an all-clear by local authorities early Friday morning after receiving a bomb threat by phone late Thursday night, with the NYPD tweeting the threat was “not substantiated.”

{mosads}The threat was reported at 10:45 p.m. EST by the NYPD, who evacuated Time Warner Center near Manhattan’s Central Park while closing two major streets around the building to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. 

There has been a bomb threat phoned into the CNN offices in NY. Employees have been evacuated and the NYPD is investigating. More info to follow as it becomes available.

CNN’s Don Lemon was on the air anchoring “CNN Tonight” when the evacuations started.

“We were evacuated in the middle of my live show,” tweeted Lemon. “Bomb threat. We’re running taped programming. NYPD is investigating. Stay tuned.”

According to CNN, the person who called in the threat said five bombs were placed in the CNN offices.

The threat comes six weeks after CNN was forced to cut out of a live broadcast in October 25 after an alarm went off due to a bomb threat.

The building was evacuated at that time upon discovery of a bomb mailed to former CIA Director John Brennan, who actually works for NBC and MSNBC as a senior intelligence analyst.

“CNN Newsroom” anchors Poppy Harlow and Jim Sciutto continued to broadcast from the street a short time later on their cellphones.

The October threat was part of a string of attempted mail bomb attacks sent to leading Democrats, actors and the news network.

Mail bomb suspect Cesar Sayoc was arrested on Nov. 5 in Plantation, Fla. The 56-year-old was indicted on Nov. 9 and faces life in prison.
