Scarborough: Pence giving Baghdad Bob a bad name
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough on Thursday said Vice President Pence is “now giving Baghdad Bob a bad name,” referring to Iraq’s information officer under Saddam Hussein.
Scarborough ripped Pence after the vice president said “we really didn’t see a blue wave,” referring to the midterm elections that resulted in Democrats winning control of the House.
{mosads}”I look at Mike Pence, and I’m saddened by the fact that Mike feels like he has to lie to a reporter, degrade himself for Donald Trump, and saying that, well, we didn’t really see that blue wave,” said Scarborough, who is often critical of the administration on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”
“It would be funny if it weren’t so sad for this guy who was actually once not only a respected politician but a respected man, but now he is giving Baghdad Bob a bad name saying that they had a great Tuesday,” Scarborough said, before adding later, “Tuesday was a massive blue wave, was it not? Especially in the House.”
If Republicans can win a contested Senate seat in Florida where their candidate is leading and hold on in a Mississippi Senate run-off, where they are favored, they would gain two seats in the Senate.
But overall, the midterms have looked worse and worse for the GOP. Democrats won two open Senate races, took back the House with gains of at least 34 seats and gained seven governorships.
Pence in remarks this week highlighted the gains in the Senate.
“We made history by expanding our majority in the Senate,” Pence told a reporter. “We won some great elections in governor’s offices around the country, and we didn’t really see that blue wave in the House of Representatives come our way. I think it’s because the American people see the results.”
President Trump and Pence have attempted to downplay this year’s results, most often by citing the party in power gained seats in the Senate for only the fifth time in the past 100 years.
