Tapper blasts Trump for calling out GOP lawmakers who didn’t embrace him: ‘That’s how gangsters act’

CNN anchor Jake Tapper on Wednesday compared President Trump to “gangsters” after he called out the midterm election losses of Republicans he said didn’t “embrace” him.

“I’ve never seen a president take delight in people of his own party losing. And the only thing I can compare that to is some of the works of Francis Ford Coppola or Martin Scorsese,” Tapper said on CNN.

During a press conference Wednesday from the White House, Trump singled out several Republicans who either lost in Tuesday’s midterms or were likely to lose, including Reps. Mike Coffman (Colo.), Carlos Curbelo (Fla.), Barbara Comstock (Va.) and Mia Love (Utah).

“Too bad, Mike,” the president said about Coffman, who was defeated by Democratic challenger Jason Crow.

“Mia Love gave me no love. And she lost. Too bad. Sorry about that Mia,” Trump said of the Utah lawmaker.

“Barbara Comstock was another one,” he also said. “I think she could have won that race, but she didn’t want to have an embrace. For that, I don’t blame her.”

Tapper said that Trump “danced on their graves” in appearing to take satisfaction in the losses of those candidates.

“He said because they didn’t embrace him, they lost. And he was flip about it,” Tapper said.
