CNN slams Trump Jr. after he criticizes network for not showing immigration spot: ‘This ad is racist’

CNN fired back on Saturday after Donald Trump Jr. claimed the network wouldn’t run a controversial immigration ad sponsored by Donald J. Trump for President, Inc., stating that it declined to run the advertisement because it was “racist.”

“CNN refused to run this ad… I guess they only run fake news and won’t talk about real threats that don’t suit their agenda. Enjoy. Remember this on Tuesday,” the president’s eldest son tweeted Saturday morning.

The Twitter account for CNN Communications responded, saying the network’s editorial coverage has made it “abundantly clear … that this ad is racist.”

“When presented with an opportunity to be paid to take a version of this ad, we declined. Those are the facts,” CNN wrote.

The president tweeted out the controversial new ad on Wednesday, which depicts a man accused of killing two police officers spewing profanities and threats while at trial in 2014.

The ad claims that Democrats allowed Luis Bracamontes back into the country after he was deported, but he was readmitted to the U.S. during Republican President George W. Bush’s tenure.

The ad also shows images of the migrant caravan of Central American asylum seekers traveling toward the U.S.

“Who else would Democrats let in?” The narrator asks.

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) called the ad “sickening” and called on all Republicans to denounce it.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez blasted the ad as a divisive “dog-whistle.”

“This has been Donald Trump’s playbook for so long, and when they go low, we go vote,” Perez said.

Trump has sought to push his immigration agenda in the days before Tuesday’s midterm elections in hopes of lifting Republican chances of building their Senate majority.
