2018 Emmy Awards ratings fall to all-time low

Ratings for the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards fell to an all-time low this year, with the Monday night event down 10 percent from last year’s program, according to early numbers from Nielsen Media Research. 

In terms of viewers, the early returns showed the program hosted by “Saturday Night Live” cast members Michael Che and Colin Jost delivered about 9.1 million viewers, down from 11.8 million for the 2017 event hosted by Stephen Colbert on CBS.

{mosads} Ratings were also down 32 percent from the last time NBC broadcast the event in 2014. 

Final numbers will be available Tuesday afternoon.  

Most of the winners from this year’s Emmys came from pay-TV or digital media outlets such as HBO, Netflix and Amazon, and not traditional broadcast networks such as ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox, which may have contributed to the low ratings because the unfamiliar nominees attracted fewer viewers. 
 
HBO’s “Game of Thrones” walked away as the biggest winner of the night, snaring eight awards including Outstanding Drama Series.
