MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Trump attack: ‘We’re sad for you’
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough said he and the other hosts of “Morning Joe” are “sad” for President Trump after he ripped the program in a Thursday tweet.
Scarborough also said he believes Trump watches the program, despite the president’s tweet that “Morning Joe is a dead show with very few people watching.”
{mosads}“If it’s true nobody is watching us anymore, we do know based on your staff members that we have at least one viewer every morning, and we thank you, Donald,” Scarborough said, suggesting he’s heard from others at the White House that Trump watches his program.
“We can always count on you. How are you doing? Get some sleep. Get some sleep. We’re sad for you. He’s not doing well.”
Scarborough and Trump were once friendly with one another, but have fallen out since the presidential race.
Trump used to be a regular guest on “Morning Joe,” which some criticized during the GOP presidential primary for giving too much air time to Trump and enabling his rise.
Trump often joined the show by phone as a candidate during the primaries, engaging in banter with Scarborough and his co-host, Mika Brzezinski.
But the “Morning Joe” crew’s criticism of Trump intensified as the primary moved to the general election, and by 2017 the two sides had a poisonous relationship.
Trump last summer was criticized after a tweet that suggested Brzezinski showed up with Scarborough for a party at the president’s estate in Florida while bleeding from a botched facelift.
The show is a frequent target of the president’s, and on Thursday he said it was being defeated in the ratings war by Fox.
“Morning Joe is a dead show with very few people watching and sadly, Fake News CNN is also doing poorly,” Trump added. “Too much hate and inaccurately reported stories — too predictable!”
Wow, @foxandfriends is blowing away the competition in the morning ratings. Morning Joe is a dead show with very few people watching and sadly, Fake News CNN is also doing poorly. Too much hate and inaccurately reported stories – too predictable!

Scarborough on Thursday criticized Trump’s behavior toward special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe.
Scarborough noted how little confidence Trump’s own lawyers appear to have in him, and Brzezinski added that “many would deduce that his lawyers think he’s a moron.”
“And his tweets indicate that he’s very afraid, tweeting all night long, tweeting about morning shows,” she said. “I mean, this is unhinged behavior and someone who keeps tweeting about this investigation as if he could push it away with I don’t know, trying to manipulate the press.”
