Judd Apatow calls out Fox News coverage of migrant family separation
Hollywood film producer Judd Apatow tore into 21st Century Fox on Monday, specifically calling out Fox News’s coverage of the policy of separating migrant families at the U.S. border.
In a series of tweets, Apatow called out 21st Century Fox’s executive chairman Rupert Murdoch, for promoting “evil ideas” through the Fox News network.
He also called on celebrities that star in Fox TV series to condemn the Trump administration’s so-called zero tolerance immigration policy that has lead to the separation of at least 2,000 migrant children from their parents, according to The Associated Press.
“I haven’t worked with Fox since 2002. That family promotes evil ideas and greed and corruption. We all choose who to work with. I understand why that is easier for some than others but many powerful people are powerful enough to speak up to their bosses at a moment like this,” Apatow wrote in one tweet.
“If EVERY Fox Star and show runner said this policy was evil and protested to the Murdoch family it would make a huge difference in this national debate,” he wrote in a later tweet.

He is a fucking kidnapper! The Murdoch’s support these policies ! Where are the Fox stars and executives speaking up?! Imagine if it was your kids. Who has a movie, TV show, sporting event, news show at Fox? How can you remain silent when they promote these policies? https://t.co/jrPVKrxK6n

And I haven’t seen one new powerful person who works for or at Fox stand up and say they oppose their support of these cruel policies. Not one. Fox is like the NRA to politicians. If they said this is too far the President would stop this monsterous behavior. https://t.co/MufV1iQXxs

The series of tweets from Apatow — whose show “Undeclared” aired on Fox for one season — led to the co-creator of Fox’s “Modern Family” Steve Levitan to condemn the policy.
Let me officially join @SethMacFarlane in saying I’m disgusted to work at a company that has anything whatsoever to do with @FoxNews. This bullshit is the opposite of what #ModernFamily stands for. https://t.co/dnvIbgoIyA

Apatow’s criticism comes after comedian Seth MacFarlane blasted Fox News and network host Tucker Carlson on Saturday, saying remarks made by Carlson made him embarrassed to work for the Fox network.
The Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” policy was announced earlier this year, saying the Department of Justice would criminally prosecute all adults attempting to illegally cross the southern border into the U.S. As a result, families who crossed together would in some cases be separated.
The policy has led to a flurry of backlash from both sides of the aisle, and has prompted lawmakers to introduce legislation to end the practice.
