AP: White House limited press access to parts of Trump-Kim summit

Journalists from multiple outlets were reportedly kept out of parts of President Trump’s historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Tuesday.

The Associated Press reported that while the press corps and White House have an agreement to allow a full pool of reporters into any meetings where media is allowed, reporters for the AP and other outlets were kept out of some events at the Singapore summit.

The AP reported that the White House kept text reporters for the outlet and other newswires Reuters and Bloomberg, in addition to representatives for radio and foreign press corps, from witnessing the photo-op between Trump and Kim ahead of their meeting.

AP media relations director Lauren Easton said that the outlet was “troubled” by the press’s limited access to some of the events.

“AP is troubled by the decision to curb media access at the Singapore summit,” Easton said. “It is a disservice to the public, which deserves prompt, accurate and complete reporting on what may be one of the president’s most consequential meetings.”

The White House did not immediately respond to the The Hill’s request for comment.
