Joy Reid’s old blog showed photoshopped McCain as Virginia Tech shooter

Another controversial post from MSNBC weekend host Joy Reid’s now-defunct blog resurfaced on Thursday, this one showing a photoshopped image of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) as the 2007 Virginia Tech shooter.

The blog post unearthed by BuzzFeed News was titled “Baghdad John Strikes Again” was published in Oct. 2007, during the early portion of McCain’s presidential bid.

It shows McCain’s face on the body of Seung-Hui Cho, who killed 32 people at the Blacksburg campus in April of that year. 

{mosads}The post includes a caption with an actual quote from McCain declaring that he would follow al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, who was still in hiding at the time, “to the gates of hell to capture him.”

Reid last commented on the controversial contents of her old blog, “The Reid Report” in April, saying the posts were fabricated and the result of hacking.

The McCain post comes one day after BuzzFeed discovered that Reid’s blog promoted a conspiracy documentary about the 9/11 terrorist attacks being carried out by the U.S. government on her blog in 2006. 

“The fundamental question is: do you believe the official story of 9/11? If you do, great. If you don’t, then everything that happened after that is called into serious question,” Reid wrote in the blog post, titled “Think at your own risk” in promoting the documentary “Loose Change.” 

“Even if you’re agnostic, or you tend to believe that al-Qaida attacked the World Trade Center and Pentagon and that the government had no warning such a thing could happen, it’s worth taking a second look,” she continued. 

Alex Jones, the founder of the conspiracy publication InfoWars, was involved in the production of the film, whose claims were widely debunked. 

MSNBC did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for comment.
