Fox News host Laura Ingraham took to Twitter Wednesday to slam President Trump after a bipartisan White House meeting on gun control, saying Trump tackling gun control issues will impact his 2020 presidential campaign.
“If the President @realDonaldTrump dives on the 2nd [Amendment], he won’t have to worry [about] who runs his 2020 campaign,” Ingraham tweeted.
In the White House meeting with lawmakers of both parties, Trump endorsed multiple new gun control measures, breaking with Republican lawmakers and throwing his support behind some proposals the National Rifle Association (NRA) opposes.

The president told lawmakers he wants a “comprehensive” gun control bill and he praised a bill co-sponsored by Sens. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) that would expand background checks for gun purchases.
Trump also endorsed a proposal by Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) that would expand firearm background checks to include domestic violence cases.
“Fix NICS [the National Instant Criminal Background Check System] has some really good things in it,” he said, “but it would be nice if we could add everything on to it.”
He also voiced support for confiscating guns from certain individuals deemed to be dangerous, even if it violates their due process rights.
“I like taking the guns early, like in this crazy man’s case that just took place in Florida … to go to court would have taken a long time,” Trump said. “Take the guns first, go through due process second.”
But after the meeting, Republican lawmakers said Trump’s remarks are unlikely to sway their opinions on gun control legislation.
The NRA also slammed the meeting in a statement, labeling it “great TV” but blasting the gun control proposals as “bad policy that would not keep our children safe.”
