Krauthammer: Surgery recovery ‘steadily slower’ than expected

Fox News contributor Charles Krauthammer said in a statement read by anchor Bret Baier on Tuesday night that he is still recovering from surgery and the process is “steadily slower” than he would prefer.

The 67-year-old Pulitzer Prize-winning conservative columnist also said he is “determined to make it back” from a pre-planned surgery he had last year after recommendations by his medical team, noting that he “ran into some complications” following the procedure.

“Things are progressing steadily slower than I would like, but steadily,” Krauthammer said in his statement read by Baier on “Special Report.”

“Still I wish I could give you — and myself — a better idea of when this marathon ends. I am sure it is strange for your viewers that a regular panelist should disappear for months without warning and without any real explanation.”

“After my surgery, there were serious complications that took several months to stabilize,” the statement continued. “My improvement has finally allowed me to concentrate on intensive rehabilitation to recover my strength and stamina. This too is progressing well but as usual is intense and slow. Nonetheless, I am determined to make it back. I’ve got to — I can’t let you guys have all the fun.”

Baier noted that his team at “Special Report” misses Krauthammer’s perspective on “the big issues.”

“We continue to hope and pray for your speedy recovery. And until then, we’ll keep your spot warm right here,” Baier added.

It is not known what Krauthammer specifically needed surgery for.

The former physician was permanently paralyzed from the waist down after a diving accident that occurred during his freshman year at Harvard Medical School at age 22.

Krauthammer hasn’t tweeted since Aug. 4, 2017.
