The primarily white cover, for the Jan. 22 issue of the magazine, depicts a glimpse of Trump’s recognizable hairdo inside a large, black hole.
The Washington Post reported Thursday night that Trump made the comment during a private meeting with lawmakers about immigration, referring to Haiti, El Salvador and some African countries. His comments sparked major backlash from Democrats and some Republicans, as well as others around the world.
{mosads}“Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” he said.
The White House initially did not deny the reports, but Trump pushed back Friday morning, tweeting that “the language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used.”
Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), who was present at the meeting, confirmed the reports and said that Trump “repeatedly” made the “hate-filled” comments.
Two GOP lawmakers at the meeting said they did not recall the comments.
