Kimmel: I’m buying 20 copies of Wolff’s book on Trump

Late night host Jimmy Kimmel joked on Thursday that he’s planning to buy 20 copies of a newly released book chronicling President Trump’s first year in the White House.

Kimmel said he would purchase numerous copies of “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House” in response to an effort by the president’s lawyers to stop the book’s release.

“If you don’t want people to read a book about you, why would you take legal action to try to stop people from reading the book about you?” Kimmel asked on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

“I wasn’t going to buy the book. I was just gonna read the excerpts in magazines and move on,” he added. “But now that Trump’s lawyers are going all-out to try to stop this book from being published, I’m buying 20 copies. I can’t buy enough of these books.”

The book by Michael Wolff made headlines this week as excerpts emerged in the news media ahead of its official release.

Those excerpts cast Trump’s first year in office as a chaotic one, and have infuriated the White House. Trump’s former chief strategist, Breitbart News chief Stephen Bannon, is also quoted in the book speaking critically of the president and his family.

Lawyers for Trump sent a cease and desist letter to Bannon this week, accusing him of violating a nondisclosure agreement. They also sent a cease and desist to the book’s publisher, Henry Holt & Company, demanding that it halt publication of the book.

In response, the publisher moved up the release date.
