Colbert to Trump: I don’t think Moore is the only one in ‘total denial’

Stephen Colbert on Tuesday mocked President Trump, saying Alabama GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore isn’t the only one in “total denial.”

During his late-night show, Colbert referenced a clip in which Trump appeared to throw his support behind Moore despite allegations of sexual misconduct against him.

“We don’t need a liberal person in there, a Democrat,” Trump told reporters Tuesday. “He totally denies it. He says it didn’t happen and, you know, you have to listen to him also.”

Colbert imitated Trump, saying: “You have to listen to him and not listen to anyone at the mall, the YMCA or your conscience.”

Colbert then played another clip in which Trump was asked if he believes Moore’s denials.

“Well, he denies. I mean, Roy Moore denies it. And by the way, he gives a total denial,” Trump says in response.

“Sir, I don’t think he’s the only one in ‘total denial,'” Colbert said.

Trump on Tuesday blasted the record of Moore’s Democratic opponent, Doug Jones, saying it’s “terrible on crime, it’s terrible on the borders, it’s terrible on the military.”

He also did not rule out a possible campaign stop with Moore, telling reporters: “I’ll be letting you know next week.”

The Alabama Republican has been embroiled in scandal after The Washington Post reported that he initiated a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl when he was 32.

Several other women have come forward to accuse Moore of inappropriate sexual advances when they were teenagers.

The special election for Attorney General Jeff Sessions’s former seat is set for Dec. 12.
