Megyn Kelly on Monday refuted Bill O’Reilly’s claims that no one complained about his behavior, saying that she complained and was essentially ignored.
“O’Reilly’s suggestion that no one ever complained about his behavior is false. I know because I complained,” the “Megyn Kelly Today” host said on NBC.
Reports surfaced last week that O’Reilly’s contract was extended one month after paying $32 million to settle a sexual harassment claim against him. O’Reilly claimed in a statement that no one ever filed a complaint against him at the network.
{mosads}On air, Kelly, who left Fox News for NBC earlier this year, shared an email that she wrote to the co-presidents of Fox News at the time that was previously unpublished, saying that it “speaks volumes about powerful men and the roadblocks one can face in taking them on.”
“Perhaps he didn’t realize that his exact attitude of shaming women into shutting the hell up about harassment on grounds that it will disgrace the company is in part how Fox News got into the decade-long Ailes mess to begin with,” Kelly wrote.
The late Roger Ailes resigned as CEO of Fox News after being accused of sexual harassment by former anchor Gretchen Carlson and a number of other women who had worked at the network.
“This is not unique to Fox News,” Kelly said. “Women everywhere are used to being dismissed, ignored or attacked when raising complaints about men in authority positions. They stay silent so often out of fear.”
