Cori Bush slams lawmakers who refused to go through metal detector outside House chamber

Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.) on Wednesday slammed Republican colleagues who refused to use the metal detectors installed outside the House chamber following last week’s deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol.

“To my colleagues who won’t go through the metal detectors: Have you ever had a job before?” Bush tweeted. “If you work at McDonald’s and you don’t wear the uniform, you don’t work that day. If you won’t abide by the rules of this job, go find another one.”

Bush earlier in the day had voiced similar sentiments on MSNBC’s “All in With Chris Hayes,” saying “If they won’t abide by the simple things this job calls for, then go find another one.”

Numerous House Republicans refused to follow Capitol Police officers’ instructions to use the metal detectors Tuesday night. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) called the installation “bullshit,” while Rep. Steve Womack (R-Ark.) reportedly told the officers operating them to “get back” and “don’t touch me.”

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), who has repeatedly expressed a desire to carry her Glock pistol into the Capitol with her, reportedly refused to allow the police to inspect her bag after she set off the detector. She later tweeted that their installation was “just another political stunt” by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and that “I am legally permitted to carry my firearm in Washington, D.C. and within the Capitol complex.”
