House Republican who got in shouting match with Bowman gloats over ouster

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) posted online gloating after Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) lost his bid for reelection.

“I’m going to miss our informal chitchats in the hallways,” Massie posted on social media platform X.

Massie was poking fun at Bowman, who lost Tuesday evening against George Latimer in the Democratic primary in New York’s 16th Congressional District.

In his post, Massie included a video of Bowman and him in a 2023 shouting match over gun control. The exchange came in the wake of a shooting that killed three children and three adults at a Christian school in Nashville.

The argument happened after lawmakers left House votes. Bowman, a former middle school principal, began telling the press that his Republican coworkers were cowards for their unwillingness to pass gun restriction legislation.

Massie, who is part of the Second Amendment Caucus, came out to confront Bowman on the issue.

After winning his House seat in 2020, Bowman became a member of the “Squad,” a group of some of the most progressive Democrats in the lower chamber. Bowman’s loss makes him the first incumbent House Democrat to lose a primary challenge this election cycle.

His race against Latimer became divisive for the Democratic Party and was one of the most expensive House primaries in history, with millions of dollars being fundraised.

The Hill has reached out to Bowman’s office for comment.
