Omar decries McDonald’s CEO’s $42M exit package

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) criticized the reported $42 million exit package for McDonald’s CEO Steve Easterbrook, who was fired over the weekend for having a relationship with an employee. 

“McDonald’s former CEO violated company policy and was awarded almost $42 million,” the freshman lawmaker tweeted. “Meanwhile, there are hardworking McDonald’s employees who deal with low wages and retaliation for reporting sexual assault.”

“We must and will demand better for the working class,” she added.

A spokesperson for McDonald’s declined to comment on Omar’s tweet. {mosads}

NPR reported that executive-compensation experts at Equilar found that Easterbrook’s package is worth $41.8 million.

McDonald’s announced that Easterbrook had left the company after its board of directors found that he violated company policy and used “poor judgment” relating to a relationship with an employee. 

Earlier this year, more than two dozen sexual harassment complaints were filed against McDonald’s, which later faced a workers strike. Months later, the company announced that it would offer new workplace harassment training.
