Greene: Johnson is ‘owned by the Democrats’

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) accused Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) of being “owned by the Democrats” in a Sunday interview.

Asked why she thinks Johnson would not “defund Jack Smith,” referring to the special counsel who brought two indictments against President Trump, Greene said, “Mike Johnson is owned by the Democrats, and that proved to me to be right again.”

“When I called the motion to vacate, it wasn’t Republicans that saved Mike Johnson. It was Democrats that saved Mike Johnson,” Greene said in an interview on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo.

“And when you have Nancy Pelosi, who was Speaker of the House when they impeached President Trump twice, and you have Jerry Nadler, who was chairman of the Judiciary Committee that led the impeachment against President Trump, voting to save Mike Johnson, that tells the American people everything that they need to know,” she continued.

“Mike Johnson is owned by the Democrats and refuses to protect President Trump even though he runs down at Mar-a-Lago every chance he gets and hugs him as tightly as possible,” she added.

The House overwhelmingly rejected Greene’s effort this past week to oust Johnson from his post. Only 10 Republicans and 32 Democrats joined her in voting against House Majority Leader Steve Scalise’s (R-La.) motion to table her resolution, which ultimately prevented the removal resolution from ever hitting the floor for a vote.

The chamber voted 359-43-7 to save Johnson in an overwhelming bipartisan vote.

Johnson, at a press conference this past week, railed against Smith and the indictments he brought against Trump and pledged to the American public that “you’re going to see the United States Congress address this in every possible way that we can because we need accountability.”

Johnson reiterated that sentiment on Sunday, saying he was working with House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and House Oversight Chair James Comer (Ky.) on next steps.

“It is impossible to deny the judicial system in our country has been weaponized against President Trump,” Johnson wrote on X. “I am working with Chairmen Jordan and Comer on measures to rein in the abuses of Special Counsel Jack Smith and hold him accountable.”
