New York Democratic congresswoman hospitalized

Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) was hospitalized Monday after feeling faint at a public event.

Maloney, 73, complained of pain earlier in the day and said she could not see. Staffers then escorted her to a bench where she sat while 911 was called, according to the New York Daily News.

{mosads}“Thank you to everyone for your well wishes and concern and to the great staff, nurses, and doctors at New-York Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital,” Maloney said in a statement Monday afternoon. “This morning, I began to feel faint at a public event, and out of an abundance of caution, sought medical attention.”

“I am recovering from bronchitis, and probably should have stayed home. After some rest and chicken soup, I am looking forward to getting back to work for the people of New York,” she added.

The episode occurred while Maloney was attending a Manhattan-area vigil for four homeless men murdered in Chinatown over the weekend.

“The Congresswoman is doing well and just waiting on final word from her doctor as to when she can be discharged,” Maloney’s spokeswoman, Jennifer Bell, told The Hill in a statement earlier on Monday.

Maloney had been scheduled to attend an event on helicopter safety with House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) later Monday.
