Democratic lawmaker invites Republican to town hall after he accuses her of dodging voters on impeachment

Rep. Elaine Luria (D-Va.) on Monday invited her predecessor, former Rep. Scott Taylor (R), to her next town hall Thursday after he accused her on Twitter of dodging her constituents since she backed an impeachment inquiry against President Trump.

“She was making CLEAR call for impeachment before she was CLEAR on anything. @SpeakerPelosi used her & the others for cover for the launch. Now she should explain to her constituents why she thinks their votes for or against @realDonaldTrump don’t matter. Where is her town hall??” tweeted Taylor, who represented Virginia’s 2nd District from 2017 to 2019, about Luria. He also linked to a local news interview where she spoke in favor of impeachment.{mosads}

“Mr. Taylor, as my constituent, I would like to invite you to attend my next town hall this Thursday at New Hope Baptist Church. Hope to see you there!” Luria tweeted in response.

Luria, a former Navy officer, was one of seven Democrats with national security or military backgrounds who represent swing districts who called for impeachment proceedings in a Sept. 23 Washington Post op-ed.

Although Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton won Virginia in the 2016 presidential election, the 2nd District went for Trump by 3 points, the narrowest split of any of the state’s 11 congressional districts.
