Ex-ICE director thought about giving Democrat a ‘beating’ during border hearing

Former acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) chief Thomas Homan said he considered “beating” a House Democrat during a recent congressional hearing that turned heated.

Rep. Jesús García (D-Ill.) asked Homan during last week’s House Oversight and Reform Committee hearing if he didn’t “care” about the kids because they “don’t look like the children around you?”

“That’s when I broke,” Homan said Monday on “Fox and Friends.”

{mosads}“If you noticed, I hesitated a minute before I started yelling because I actually think about getting up and throwing that man a beating, right there in the middle of the room,” Homan said.

During the hearing, Homan told García his comments “are disgusting.” He also pointed at the congressman and yelled, “You’re the member of Congress. Fix it!”

Homan told Fox News that the hearing was “political theater” and alleged that House Democrats “didn’t want to hear the truth.”

“When you tell someone who has spent their year saving lives that I don’t care about dying children, and I’m a racist, that’s where I broke,” Homan said.

Lawmakers at the hearing pressed Homan on the conditions at border facilities and the Trump administration’s policies.

As ICE chief last year, Homan enforced the administration’s “zero tolerance” policy that resulted in the separation of more than 2,800 migrant children from their parents.

Democrats have been criticizing the conditions at border facilities, saying they are inhumane after touring several detention centers earlier this month.

Administration officials have denied that the facilities are unsafe or unsanitary.
