Crenshaw: GOP delay on border action ‘unethical’

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) slammed his GOP colleagues in a Wednesday interview for not taking action on the border, arguing it was “unethical.”

“I say that’s an unethical stance to take,” Crenshaw told NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo on what he thought of Republicans opting to not take any action on the border until after the November election.

Conservatives in the House and Senate torpedoed a bipartisan Senate border measure that aimed to strengthen border security, arguing it did not go far enough. Former President Trump, the likely GOP nominee for president later this year, led the charge against the bill. Trump is seeking to make the border a major issue in the fall election.

“You know, I’m not willing to let in tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands more illegal immigrants, just to own Biden, right? That, that’s — that is a bad stance to take. We can put things into law that force Biden’s hand,” Crenshaw said on NewsNation’s “Cuomo.”

Crenshaw also noted that some Republicans have said President Biden does not need new laws to enact border security. He disagreed with the claim, saying more laws are needed to fix the situation at the border.

“Congress needs to act. We actually do need new laws. And we can’t just we can just throw our hands up and say, ‘Well, Biden won’t follow the laws.’ If we make the laws clear enough, he does have to follow them,” Crenshaw said.

Crenshaw had previously taken aim at fellow Republicans for opposing the border deal, saying the position was the “height of stupidity.”
