Dem rep: ‘Clear’ that Trump campaign team was trying to ‘undermine’ 2016 election

Rep. Dan Kildee (D-Mich.) said that Friday’s indictment of former Trump campaign adviser Roger Stone shows that the president’s campaign team was working in a “coordinated” fashion to secure the public release of emails stolen from the Democratic Party.

In an interview with CNN, Kildee said that the Trump campaign worked with “everyone they could work with” to obtain emails that Russian hackers stole from the servers of the Democratic National Committee and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

The comments came after Stone was indicted as part of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, consisting of one count of obstruction of an official proceeding, five counts of false statements, and one count of witness tampering

“It’s clear that the Trump campaign was acting in a coordinated fashion to try to undermine this election and to try to get this information into public circulation,” Kildee told CNN’s Jim Sciutto.

“It’s pretty stunning to read these indictments … and compare them to the constant pronouncements the president has made. Clearly he has a distant relationship with the truth, but in this case he’s getting his wall: Unfortunately, it’s the wall that’s being built around him,” Kildee added.

Stone is the sixth associate of President Trump to be charged in connection with Mueller’s sprawling probe into Russian election interference and potential coordination between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

Stone has denied any coordination with Russia during the 2016 campaign, while maintaining for months that he expected to be indicted under the ongoing investigation.
