Ousted GOP lawmaker David Brat named dean at Liberty University business school
Outgoing Rep. Dave Brat (R-Va.), who lost his reelection bid in November, took over Tuesday as the dean of Liberty University’s School of Business, the school announced.
“Dave’s experience in the private business sector, in higher education, and most recently as a U.S. Congressman, offer a unique blend of applied experience that brings additional value and depth to our business faculty,” Liberty interim Provost Scott Hicks said in a statement.
Brat was a close ally of President Trump while serving in the House, and Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. has been a staunch supporter of Trump as well.
{mosads}Trump endorsed Brat in his midterm race last year, but the GOP lawmaker narrowly lost his campaign against Democrat Abigail Spanberger in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District.
The district contains some Richmond suburbs and parts of rural central Virginia.
Brat joined the House after the 2014 election after securing a stunning upset victory over then-Majority Leader Eric Cantor (Va.) in the GOP primary.
Prior to his time in Congress, Brat taught and chaired the economics and business department at Randolph-Macon College in Virginia.
