Pelosi postpones reception for new Congress amid shutdown

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has reportedly postponed a reception for members of the new Congress because of the partial government shutdown.

Pelosi, who will likely be the next Speaker, has postponed the “Speaker’s Dessert Reception,” according to Politico.

Politico reported that Pelosi announced the decision to postpone the event on Saturday.

The federal government is currently in a partial shutdown after lawmakers were unable to come to an agreement on President Trump’s demand for $5 billion in funding for a wall along the southern border.

The next Congress begins this week, with Democrats taking control of the House.
