Anti-Pelosi Dem responds to #FiveWhiteGuys hashtag: She can ‘try to frame it in some sexist terms or whatever’

Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) on Thursday pushed back on the use of the “#FiveWhiteGuys” hashtag to call out an alleged lack of diversity among critics of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) bid to be Speaker.

The hashtag, which Moulton suggested was “sexist,” has gone viral amid an increasingly heated Speaker’s race.

“It’s time that we have more women in leadership, I think we should have women of color in leadership,” Moulton said on CNN’s “New Day.”

“I understand that Pelosi can try to frame it in some sexist terms or whatever, but if you look at the broad coalition that’s behind it, including … women who were just newly elected and made a promise to vote for someone other than her.”

Moulton is one of several Democratic lawmakers, a group that includes some women, to publicly express opposition to Pelosi’s Speaker bid.

Pelosi originally introduced the “five white guys” phrase in January when complaining about her colleagues leading immigration negotiations.

Pelosi remains confident that she has the support to retake her prior position as Speaker.
