Liz Cheney running for Republican Conference chair: report

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) is running for a top GOP leadership post in the House, according to a new report.

A source close to Cheney confirmed to CNN that she’s running for chair of the Republican Conference.

The Hill could not immediately reach Cheney’s office.

Liz Cheney’s father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, served as conference chair when he represented Wyoming in the House, CNN reports.

{mosads}Cheney has been fundraising across the country for GOP candidates and has been an active fundraiser since she entered office, CNN noted.

Thursday and Friday she will fundraise alongside house Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) in an effort to get conservatives out to vote in eight congressional races.

If the GOP holds the House after the midterm elections on Tuesday and Cheney emerges as conference chair, she will be the fourth highest ranking member of House GOP leadership.

She would hold the third highest position if Republicans lose their majority in the House, as the Speaker position would then pass into Democrats’ hands. 

Democrats are predicted to flip the House next Tuesday, and Democrats are growing increasingly confident they will take the majority.
