Trump Jr., Dem congressman spar over Ellison’s association with Farrakhan

Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Wis.) and Donald Trump Jr. on Sunday sparred over Rep. Keith Ellison’s (D-Minn.) association with Louis Farrakhan.

“Is it that he’s black or that he’s Muslim that makes you hate/fear him so much?” Pocan asked Trump Jr. on Twitter after he posted a February report from The Daily Caller that Reps. Ellison, André Carson (D-Ind.) and Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) met with Farrakhan in 2013.

A spokesman for Pocan, Ron Boehmer, told The Hill that the congressman was referring to Ellison.

Ellison was featured in the photo of the article Trump retweeted, however Trump referred specifically to Farrakhan in the initial tweet.

Trump fired back, saying, “No – The reason I dislike Louis Farrakhan is because he is a raging anti-Semite & racist. You should be ashamed of yourself for defending him.”

{mosads}Farrakhan has been fighting accusations of anti-Semitism since the early 2000s.

Earlier this year, Twitter removed his verification status for posting a video in which he called Jewish people “Satanic.”

Trump added Sunday, “Lucky for you, you’re a Democratic Congressman, so the media will of course ignore your apparent support of an open anti-Semite.”

Some members of the media have hammered Democrats who have associated with Farrakhan.

CNN’s Jake Tapper elicited a passionate reaction from Ellison in an interview in June when he pressed him about his association with Farrakhan.

In March, The Washington Post gave Ellison “Four Pinocchios” for his claim that he had no relationship with Farrakhan.

Ellison is running for attorney general in Minnesota, and will face Doug Wardlow (R) in November.
