Mia Love to join GOP men’s congressional baseball team

Fox & Friends

Rep. Mia Love (R-Utah) will be the only woman on the Republican men’s congressional baseball team when it faces the Democrats on June 14.

Love appeared on “Fox & Friends” Tuesday morning to discuss joining the GOP roster for the annual game.

The 42-year-old, who will be playing second base, joked that she would be “doing a lot of the running because those guys need a someone who is a little faster to run around the bases.”

{mosads}House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), who normally plays second base, was shot along with four others last year during a Republican team practice in Alexandria, Va., when a gunman opened fire.

Love said this year’s game will be a “celebration.”

“It’s going to be a celebration of survival,” Love said. “They didn’t take my friend Scalise out.”

The Democrats feature a roster that includes two female California lawmakers, Reps. Nanette Diaz Barragan and Linda Sanchez.

Sanchez, however, will not be playing this year because she broke her hand over the recess, her spokesperson confirmed Tuesday. It will be only the second game she has missed in 15 years.

The Democrats defeated the GOP last year 11-2, but gave the winners’ trophy to Scalise to keep in his office during his recovery.
