Pelosi visits with Golden State Warriors

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) met with the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night after the team declined an invitation to visit the White House and the U.S. Capitol.

The Warriors were in Washington for a basketball game against the Wizards. After the game, Pelosi and Lee, who represent California’s Bay Area, waited outside the locker room to meet with the team, The Washington Post reported

President Trump publicly disinvited the defending NBA champions from the White House last year after star player Stephen Curry criticized the president.

“It was beautiful. It was lovely,” Pelosi told The Washington Post of the team’s decision. “And you know what was great about it? The authenticity. This is what they wanted to do.”

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has often spoken out against Trump’s policies and rhetoric. Late last year, he said he believes the nation’s “core values” are under attack.

Earlier this month, after a mass shooting at a Florida high school, Kerr criticized the government for its inaction on gun laws.

“It doesn’t seem to matter to our government that children are being shot to death day after day in schools,” Kerr told reporters.
