House Dems to target over 100 GOP-held districts in midterms

House Democrats are planning to take aim at more than 100 congressional districts that are held by Republicans in this year’s midterm elections.

The plans from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) would expand the number of battleground districts to the largest amount in at least a decade.

The districts Democrats plan to target will be in states including South Carolina, Wisconsin and Texas.

“They should do some re-evaluating,” Rep. Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), the chairman of the DCCC, said of Republicans’ confidence about the midterms, according to NBC News.

Polling conducted by the DCCC has shown potential for Democrats, the network reported.

Last year, House Democrats announced they were expanding the number of GOP-held districts they planned to target to 91.

Democrats need a net gain of 24 seats to win back the House.

The news comes as Republicans are feeling better about their prospects in the midterm elections, buoyed by recent polls that show their numbers improving.

Earlier this month, President Trump touted the shift in public sentiment reflected in the recent polls during a joint Senate-House Republican retreat in West Virginia.

“I just looked at some numbers; you’ve even done better than you thought,” Trump said.
