Top Dem: Trump lies ‘just about every day’

Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-N.Y.) on Wednesday said President Trump makes immigration negotiations difficult because he “lies just about every day.”

“I don’t trust the president’s word. He’s demonstrated over and over again he lies just about every day. He says falsehoods all the time,” Crowley said on “Meet The Press Daily.”

“So it does make it very difficult to negotiate with someone who keeps moving the goalposts, who keeps changing what the bottom line is,” Crowley added.

{mosads}Lawmakers are negotiating an immigration deal that is expected to address the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and border security.

The Trump administration earlier this month released its immigration proposal, which received pushback from both parties.

Crowley, who serves as chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, said Trump has unnecessarily made issues such as diversity visas and family reunification part of the immigration debate over DACA.

Democrats booed Trump during Tuesday’s State of the Union address when he inaccurately said the current immigration system allows a single immigrant to bring “virtually unlimited” relatives into the country.

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) called out Trump for linking DACA beneficiaries with members of the violent MS-13 gang.

The website PolitiFact had fact-checked nearly 500 of Trump’s statements prior to Tuesday night’s speech. It rated 21 percent of his claims “mostly false,” 33 percent “false” and 15 percent “pants on fire.” The site briefly crashed during the State of the Union.
