Wisconsin Democrat refuses to be ‘backdrop’ in Trump’s jobs announcement
Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Wis.) said Wednesday that she “respectfully declined” an invitation from President Trump to appear with him at a news conference announcing the move of an electronics manufacturer to her state.
“My constituents have no interest in me entertaining the president’s desire to be used as a backdrop in this photo op,” Moore told the Associated Press.
Trump is expected to announce that Apple supplier Foxconn plans to build a factory in Wisconsin somewhere between Milwaukee and Chicago that will create a predicted 3,000 jobs.
{mosads}Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan, who also represents Wisconsin, is joining Trump at the White House announcement.
Moore said she is “relieved” that Foxconn’s project may provide new opportunities for her constituents, but on Wednesday she will instead participate in a Congressional Black Caucus town hall event on Twitter over current healthcare legislation.
