Scalise moved out of intensive care

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) has been moved out of the intensive care unit (ICU), ABC News and NBC News reported Friday.

Scalise has been recovering at the hospital for more than a week after being seriously wounded when a gunman opened fire at a park in Alexandria, Va., where Republican lawmakers were practicing for a charity baseball game.

Scalise took a single gunshot to his hip, which tore through bones and internal organs, leaving him in critical condition. When he arrived at MedStar Washington Hospital Center last Wednesday, the No. 3 House Republican “was as critical as can be,” the hospital’s director of trauma said.

{mosads}Scalise was updated to fair condition on Wednesday and “is beginning an extended period of healing and rehabilitation,” the hospital said. Doctors said last week that the congressman would likely be in the hospital for weeks.

Matt Mika, a lobbyist who was also critically wounded during the shooting last week, has also been released from the ICU and is in good condition, according to reports on Friday.
