House subcommittees pass all six defense spending bills

The House Armed Services subcommittees on Thursday quickly finished passing all six bills that will make up the base of the fiscal 2018 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

The emerging threats and tactical air and land forces subcommittees passed their bills Wednesday, while the readiness, strategic forces, military personnel, and seapower and projection forces subcommittees passed their versions Thursday. 

Lawmakers are now a step closer to the full NDAA, which sets defense policy and priorities for the year.

{mosads}Next week the House Armed Services Committee will release the “chairman’s mark” of the NDAA, which will reveal committee’s top-line funding figures, expected to be above the $603 billion President Trump proposed for national security spending in FY-18.

The mark will also detail how many extra aircraft, ships and weapons systems the committee hopes to include in the NDAA.

The seapower subcommittee has already recommended adding five ships to the eight proposed in the Trump budget request.
